As a visitor to Licht op Drachten, we are happy to help you with practical information and tips. Below you will find an overview including opening hours, the programme, parking and accessibility of Drachten. You can also contact our volunteers for practical information, who you will meet at various works of art on the route.

Dates and times

Licht op Drachten vindt plaats van vrijdag 22 november tot en met zondag 1 december en is gratis te bezoeken. De lichtkunstwerken zijn te bezichtigen van 17.00 uur tot 21.00 uur.

The works of art can also be visited on rainy days. Only in extreme weather conditions the decision not to switch on the structures can be taken in consultation with the municipality. We will then report about this on our homepage and via social media.

Route

The route with light artworks runs through the center of Drachten and is approximately 3 kilometers long. The duration of walking the entire route, including viewing the works of art, is between an hour and an hour and a half.

De route is alleen wandelend af te leggen, omdat delen van de route verboden of lastig toegankelijk zijn voor fietsers en gemotoriseerd verkeer. In een rolstoel zijn alle kunstwerken goed te bezoeken, echter in het park bij kunstwerk kan de bodem (te) nat zijn. Voor het kunstwerken bij Museum Dr888 moet u naar binnen.

Als u de genummerde route van de kunstwerken wilt volgen, dan start u bij het museum en eindigt u in Schouwburg de Lawei. Maar het staat iedereen vrij een zelfgekozen route te lopen.

Side program

Naast de route met kunstwerken, kent Licht op Drachten ook een randprogramma. Met o.a. filmvertoningen en spectaculaire shows met vuur en laserlicht. Voor een aantal van deze programmaonderdelen moet een kaartje worden gekocht. Wacht daar niet te lang mee, want de capaciteit is beperkt. Bars and restaurants

Along the route you will pass a wide variety of establishments, where you can also relax during Licht op Drachten. Feel free to light up somewhere for a drink, dinner, or a cup of hot chocolate.

Bij kunstwerk 6 ‘Art in a box’ vindt u horecastands van Brasserie De Waag en de HEMA. U kunt daar genieten van iets lekkers, terwijl u de werken van jonge makers bekijkt. In Museum Dr8888 staat en heuse Koek & Zopie. En aan het einde van de route kunt u voor een borrel terecht in theatercafé Hopper in schouwburg De Lawei.

Information points

Bij de grotere kunstwerken langs de route, staan vrijwilligers van Licht op Drachten. Zij kunnen u helpen met praktische informatie. Bij hen kunt u bovendien een flyer krijgen, met daarop de route, de kunstwerken en aanvullende informatie.

Parking

Drachten kent een ruim aanbod aan parkeergelegenheden in en rond het centrum, die tijdens Licht op Drachten allemaal bereikbaar zijn. Wilt u de route lopen aan de hand van de genummerde volgorde van de kunstwerken, dan adviseren we u te parkeren op het Kiryat Onoplein en van daar naar Museum Dr8888 te lopen. Wilt u uw eigen volgorde bepalen, dan zijn alle andere parkeerterreinen rond het centrum prima alternatieven. Voor overdekt parkeren in het centrum, verwijzen we u graag naar parkeergarage Raadhuisplein. Parkeren in het centrum kost € 2,- per uur. In de parkeergarages staat u voor maximaal € 8,- per dag.

NB Op het Kiryat Onoplein kan niet worden geparkeerd op zaterdag 23 november en vrijdag 29 november vanwege de shows uit het randprogramma van Licht op Drachten die op deze dagen op het plein plaatsvinden

Public transport

Drachten has no train station but is easily accessible by bus. From the stations in surrounding places such as Leeuwarden, Heerenveen or Groningen, buses run (almost) directly to Drachten very regularly. The central bus station on Van Knobelsdorffplein is the most convenient for getting off. At the bus station you will find one of the light artworks and it is only 250 meters from the start of the route.

Shopping evenings and shopping Sundays

During Licht op Drachten, retailers organize extra shopping evenings and an extra shopping Sunday. Here you will find the overview:

Zondag 24 november: shopping Sunday from 12 noon to 5 p.m

Donderdag 28 november: shopping evening until 9 p.m

Zondag 1 december: shopping Sunday from 12 noon to 5 p.m

Overnight stays

If, after walking the route or shopping on one of the shopping evenings, you feel like lingering a little longer, you can spend the night in one of the hotels or B&Bs in Drachten or the immediate surroundings. For example, in Hotel Drachtenone of the sponsors of the light art festival.
